Golden Apples of the Sun

I hope by now you've heard Caroline Herring's latest CD project, "Golden Apples of the Sun" (Signature Sounds 2009). If you haven't, you must.

Really. Hurry.

Honestly, it's one of my favorite CDs of the year, maybe of the decade. Bobbi Buchanan's online magazine, New Southerner, featured my review of "Golden Apples" in the Winter 09-10 issue. You can read the review here, but it would be better if you just bought the CD and shared the love. You won't be disappointed.

Marianne Worthington

Marianne Worthington, a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, is a poet and educator living in Williamsburg, Kentucky, since 1990. Her poetry chapbook, Larger Bodies Than Mine (Finishing Line Press, 2006), was included in Finishing Line’s New Women’s Voices series and chosen as the 2007 Appalachian Book of the Year in poetry by the Appalachian Writers Association. She is editor of Motif: Writing By Ear, An Anthology of Writings About Music (MotesBooks, 2009) and Motif 2: Come What May, An Anthology of Writings About Chance (MotesBooks, 2010). Worthington is poetry editor and former book reviews editor for Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine. Along with Silas House and Jason Howard, she founded the online literary journal Still: The Journal in 2009, for which she serves as poetry editor. She is associate professor of Communication and Journalism at University of the Cumberlands, and a creative writing instructor for the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts.

Her poems, essays, reviews and feature articles have appeared widely and in several anthologies, including We All Live Downstream: Writings about Mountaintop Removal, Knoxville Bound, Women.Period, Chopin with Cherries, and Cornbread Nation 5. She received the Berea College Appalachian Music Fellowship for 2009, the Al Smith Fellowship from the Kentucky Arts Council in 2008, an Individual Artist Grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women in 2007, and the Denny C. Plattner Award for Nonfiction in 2007. She often teaches writing workshops throughout Kentucky and the Southeast.
